We would like to inform you that the 2017 cycle of the UN DESA Energy Grant has started. The thematic focus for 2017 is “Sustainable Energy for Eradicating Poverty and Promoting Prosperity in a Changing World”. It is aligned with the theme of the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development taking place in New York in July 2017. As you know, the Grant carries an award of one million US dollars for the winner.

A dedicated website which provides guidelines regarding application procedures is now available. The deadline for applications is 15 June 2017 at midnight (EST – New York time).

Applications are now open to individuals, institutions or partnerships based on past and current achievements. Successful recipients should be able to demonstrate leadership and innovation in energy for poverty alleviation and stimulating economic opportunity, as well as willingness and ability to implement knowledge transfer through capacity building activities aimed at replicating and scaling up successful experiences and lessons learned.
